Tropes in manhwa are awful yet people still defend them
I'm in a bad mood right now so what better way to release all that pent up anger by ranting on what can ruin a good story.
1: Slavery being inserted only for cheap plot and slaves being demonized as obsessive/greedy monsters for "not knowing their place"
Theres nothing wrong with wanting to insert slavery in your story AS LONG as it's not just cheap plot to make your MC look "better" by buying from a single to all of the slaves because let me tell you this: there is no such thing as a good slave owner, you cannot morally own another human being. A lot of manhwa like to have slavery be a part of their plot completely ignoring that just because the MC goes "wow this is terrible" doesn't make them a good person after they buy a slave.
Remarried empress does this with its villian Rashta by pushing the notion that she's being greedy for not wanting to stay in poverty so Navier won't suffer because apparently a slave wanting what the silver spoon mouthed nobles were born into is so terrible not to mention they justify slave owners and slavery in general as a punishment for criminals (neglecting the fact that children can be sold by their parents)
The villainess has fun again justifies a child slave being bought by the lead and he becomes an obsessive shouta love interest, fans continously justify by using the ancient lolicon excuse "he may look young but he's actually 99182823 years old!"
In divorcing my tyrant husband, Robelia buys 30 slaves and the only 2 that consistently show up have no other personality other then "we love you FL we will worship you till the end of time!"
There's a damn manhwa out there literally called the order of slave breeding and even when a story tries to do this correctly such as VADTD with Penelope being portrayed as a bad person for what she did to Eckles, fans have been so deluded by the idea that FL's buying slaves is "girlboss" that they think Eckles should be grateful to be Penelopes "pet"
2: ML's murdering innocent people after one guy hurts the FL
I already made a specific post about it before and I'll say it again: all this does is make your male lead/father figure look like a horrific monster. While you could say it's because its a medieval kingdom (objectively that is true that they would do this) manhwa and OI is the same place where despite in those times taking a mistress was considered normal they still view it as cheating and "how could you pick that slut when you have such a perfect wife!? 🤬" in most stories. So yes, modern morality is still inserted within these tropes. While I can get it's a way to show that the man in questions loves the FL so much he's willing to go to such lengths to protect her I think just mutilating the guy that actually did the sin would be enough because try imagining yourself as a faithful servant who was amazing at your job getting brutally slaughtered by the Emperor because your boss attacked his daughter or lover.
Into the light once again does this with Aishas dad murdering all the relatives and close friends of a count that tried to kill Ysis and Aisha, Aisha doesn't seem to care despite being in a situation where she was wrongfully executed in her past life.
Remarried empress does this too. After Navier is nearly killed by Krista's brother, Heinrey tortures and kills the dad and slaughters the servants of the zemensias. I can't remember if he also murdered the remaining family members but I wouldn't put it past him.
3: protagonist centered morality
Protagonist centered morality is the biggest indicator that a piece of media is dealing with a mary sue FL. Whatever the protagonist says is right is immediately morally correct. This is actually used to justify the last 2 examples with "it was for the FL!" Things like slavery, murder, workplace abuse, union busting, pedophilia, and being a POS to your loved ones are all justified if the protagonist finds a cheap way to justify it and you HAVE to agree with her because her backstory is very tragic 🥺. Protagonist centered morality also ruins the chance for good characters since the FL herself never has to grow as a person so she stays the same exact thing as she was just with more enablers and random characters will be treated as villains even if they aren't actually wrong about being suspicious of the Protagonist or calling out her behavior. It twists the narrative in such incomprehensible ways that you don't even know what your reading anymore. I can't even list all of the manhwas that do this given how many there actually are so I'll just list some that are at least self aware there Protagonist is awful/morally grey or isn't even a bad person but they still have flaws that can be pointed out
Villains are destined to die
My in laws are obsessed with me
Not sew wicked step mom
Depths of malice
The villainess turns the hourglass
Beware of the villainess.
4: villains being dumbed down to make the lead look smarter
This is unfortunately another common staple often used as a quick way to make the FL look smart and witty but is that really hard to look smarter when everyone else around you is an idiot? Not only does the FL not have to put in actual effort to best her enemies but you just start to pity the villain for basically being a punching bag. Dimwitted villains aren't always bad in fact they can be some of those most entertaining characters no matter much they lose but that only works when they are meant to be seen as a goofy character that your not supposed to take seriously. Villains that are written as extremely childish and stupid but your still supposed to treat them as serious antagonists on the other hand are just annoying since you wonder how the protagonist even got killed by them in the first life if they're so stupid.
Isabella de Mare while admitly having a good reason for being dumbed down (she's a teenager in the 2nd life so it's reasonable she wouldnt be as smart as her adult counterpart) is still a joke of a villainess who keeps flipping back and fourth from a snot nosed whiny brat to a mastermind only at convenient opportunities when the plot needs conflict.
Mielle from the villainess turns the hourglass was first portrayed as extremely conniving as she arranged for Arias downfall in the shadows but in the second life she fails at every scheme she has even though she has Emma and Isis to help her out.
Ragibach is a literal demon possessing the body of another woman with the goal of setting demons loose on the word to start another human vs demon war and she succeeded in that the first time, the devastation was all there so clearly she has to be a formidable antagonist right? Well no, she's another case of being dumbed down further and further so Keira can succeed and while they do understand some plot holes such as Ludwig not trusting her as much in the second life it doesn't change the drastic character change from evil genius to bumbling idiot.
In short: dumbing down your villains so your lead can look smarter is essentially going to give the equivalent of a hydrogen bomb vs a coughing baby.
5: feminine women being demonized as basic "other girls" sluts
Okay this one isn't nearly as terrible as the others on this list because we all love the good old "a demon makes itself look beautiful to deceive humans" kind of villain, in fact as you probably know by me by now, white lotuses are my favorite kinds of character and even in media outside of manhwa I always find myself drawn to angelic villains but it seems like this is less of that and more of "Oh those are all the other girls who just want a man to save them, look at how much better my badass rich boss babe is for working for herself while taking all of their men at the time 😎" in manhwa. As soon as a traditionally feminine girl shows up, comments are already calling her a two faced bitch and half the time protagonist is already skeptical of her. This is the opposite of what being a feminist really is, a real feminist wouldn't be putting down other women just because they dress with more pink with bows and skirts and while I do think for most manhwa this is unintentional I do wish that we could have more characters like Psyche, Helena, Athy, and Jennette that prove that being overly feminine doesn't make you a backpedal on feminism. This doesn't make the badass or sexy fl's bad either, it just means they can co-exist.
An angelic villain should be treated as evil for being a well calculated schemer, not because they have a light colored color scheme
6: toxic relationships being romanticized as good
You know for a large community that claims to be about girl code a good chunk sure likes to look the other way when it comes to toxic relationships as long as the abuser is "hot" and theres always the terrible excuse such as "he has trauma!" Or "he doesn't know how to show his love normally!" No just no we aren't doing that here. Cry or better yet beg has this problem with not only the narrative claiming that Matthias graping Layla is okay because she actually loves him and doesn't know it but a large part of the fanbase also defends it, the same goes with try begging, a manhwa written by Solche who also wrote cry or better yet beg and once again despite Leon being an abuser everyone's ready to justify his actions because he's just a soft little boy who ends up falling in love with Grace awww 😍 (what the hell?) Everyones all about not justifying abusers because they had a sad past until it's the "sexy" male leads with daddy issues.
7: maid slapping
This shit isn't asserting your dominance as a boss bitch it's just work place abuse. This trope has gotten so out of hand of being justified by narratives and readers that there is an entire webtoon called this isekai maid is forming a union that's all about criticizing twisted manhwa tropes that get brushed off with maid absuer being at the biggest one. It's funny because a lot of people complain that Isekai maid union villainizes the nobles too much but they never ask the same questions when a OI is demonizing maids as greedy and lazy in order to deserve a beating. This doesn't just stop at hands either it can escalate to threats of mutilation just to assert dominice which is absolutely sick. Most of the time these leads used to be office workers or terminally ill patients, they know how terrible it is to be treated like garbage by their superiors yet they continue to absue every maid who isn't getting on their knees for them. Most maids in real history would not mistreat a noble even if they were the most hated in the house and even if they did they'd be fired without a letter of recommendation so why can't the FL's just fire the rude maid if they care about dignity so much because I'm pretty sure getting violent with a maid isn't very dignified either.
8: disgusting age gaps
Very similar to #6 but in this case while the ML/FL isn't a cruel monster to their partner it doesn't change the fact that grooming and pedophilia is still a crime worthy of life in prison. You'd think "oh no way, this can't be justified can it?" You'd be wrong. Now I belong to house of Castillo thankfully has a larger fanbase of people who think that a relationship between a girl who got groomed by her knight is bad but in cases like into the light once again a lot of people like to say "Well Aisha is technically 28 so it's fine!" When it really isn't since Aisha is still mentally 14. Taming my ex husbands mad dog is another one that does this with Reinhardt grooming a 16 year old boy and its apparently meant to be "cute".
9: claiming a character as unattractive yet giving them a perfect body and appreance
I just think this is a major cop-out since there's time where they want to make a realistic story yet also wanting a fantasy fufilment. I don't think its a coincidence that the only woman in tears of a withered flower that yout supposed to support is a Victoria's secret model body type. Even though she's meant to be an overworked exhausted 33 year old woman being mocked for losing her beauty she sure as hell isn't drawn that way, the only other women around hae soo are all women with smaller boob's and in general more common body types that are either classed as stupid or jealous that Hae soo is so beautiful that all the attractive men want her
how about we don't pit all the women against each other for once? And let's especially not villainize other women because their jealous they could never be have large boob's and tiny arms+waist at the same time?
10: the commoner protagonist actually being a noble rich person all along
Look I know most of us had loved those "the hated child is the lost princess" GLMM but we need to drop it because it's kinda disappointing that the nobody who had to work their way to the top is actually a secret magical princess who had royal blood in them all along. While I did think the villainess turns the hourglass was a pretty decent read I was super disappointed finding out that Aria was of noble descent all along. I liked seeing a commoner protagonist for once and it really felt like it was critiquing the idea that all commoners and poor people who want nice things like the nobility are greedy animals. Something similar can also happen with certain saintess manhwas that decide to twist itself into "the villainess was the true saintess all along!" And I'm just sitting here thinking "well there goes the hope that you didn't need the super duper rare power to be a strong character"
I feel way better now after writing all this.

Rings Of Power 2X06
spoilers below cc @nocompromise-noregrets when you’ve seen
thank you Ulmo once again proving that you and Varda hold the Valars collective brain cell(s), especially re messaging delivery like THANK YOU KINDLY.
that is so much Elendil whump SO MUCH like THE POTENTIAL. Also he and Queen Of My Heart Miriel get married and they are both FINE ACTUALLY. They have three daughters running around.
Miriel really really just…I adore her so much. Her faith, her heart and the way she will absolutely be the best kind of leader and also that she and Elendil are shoving each other out of the way like NO I’M RISKING DEATH FOR THE GREATER GOOD. Love them. Love their decency.
(Listen Ar Pharazon is in love with Elendil sorry not sorry I am going with this (in text they were quote great friends in their youth I’m going with it, Pharazon is just hella jealous/possessive).
Galadriel really continuing the family tradition of getting chained up by the hand :(. (Also her desperate heartbroken pleading to Adar because she’s seen the awful shape of the trap and actually, despite everything she does not want this, does not want more people to fall to Sauron (yes even Orcs, I think).
Mairon really got stabbed with his husbands crown I think that’s hilarious frankly also…Adar it didn’t exactly work. I mean kind of. Temporarily. But I get why you’d think it.
(I am sad they don’t have Silmarillion Rights because there’s so so much amazing lore work here love that for me).
Sauron really gaslight, gatekeep, girlbossing horrifyingly.
In all seriousness it’s Awful. It’s abusive relationship (romantic) and possessiveness and using and I can feel it in my bones and the thing is, the thing is he’s using Celebrimbors ambitions yes - but overridingly it’s the desire to do good, to redeem his family name as well and :((((((((.
Charlie(s) plural are doing amazing but also CHARLIE VICKERS HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK. He is a maia somehow. He is alluringly horrifying and you can see exactly how Sauron is so competent, so very very dangerous and why he came so very very close to winning in the end.
Charlie II is breaking my heart because, G-d his abuser can literally manipulate reality and there’s so so little he can do (we know he won’t give Sauron what he wants despite all the pain, we know it but it’s still breaking me).
DISA MY BELOVED DISA (her singing, can we just discuss that oh my G-d. Also that Prince Durin looked that Fuck Ass Maia in the face and went ‘…fuck off’ BEAUTIFUL.
Harfoots very cute fyi (also party tree origin story?)
Still not mentioning Luthien’s name because Sauron too terrified out of his mind. It’s why he’s hoping to not meet Elrond thank you very fucking much.
THE PREVIEW FUCK. OW. (“I don’t want you to face this alone” I just…EMOTIONAL DAMAGE)
Both reasonably sure Stranger Gandalf (which is actually a cool lore bit because Olorin did not want to go to Middle Earth, was Terrified Of It if it is) and also maybe not.
Tom Bombadil might be aspect of Eru which would track with Eru.
In conclusion get a job stay away from them really applying to a lot of people in regards to Sauron.

could you give us a timeline for the omaegorverse? i've been studying the family tree for a solid 3 days now (genuinely a few hours a day it's becoming a problem) and i need to know more. oh beloved oracle satisfy my craving for insane asoiaf aus tell me moreeee
OK listing the history below seperated by kings
have maegor era from the 40s to 66 AC, peak omegafication dark evil era everyone's a little scared. several harsh long winters. jaehaerys viserra daenys born. getting raised poorly. jaehaerys is beaing beat, viserra is the golden child, daenys is viserys' comfort doll. maegor has cemented his rule and has rhaena on his side through hostages.
jaehaerys i era 66 through 92. got leadership beat into him by maegor. viserra is gotten herself kicked out of the westerlands (married into the lannisters, killed her husband and his mother to have blood magic twins, pissed everyone off) and is now girlbossing through the riverlands married into harrenhal. in 77AC viserys and daenys do a dragon dream murder suicide at the god's eye. jaehaerys has six kids with his wife maris hightower. she kills him cos his dick led him to hole (a hightower bastard) which led to their daughter dying (the bastard convinced him to wed their daughter maegelle to lord hightower).
aegon ii 92 AC through 99 AC. in his mid-twenties when he ascends to the throne. his reign is mostly marked by a civil war between him and his twin brother aerion, mostly over their sister helaena who aerion kidnapped (helen of troy.) they both die fighting above dragonstone.
viserys i 99AC through 120AC. DYNASTIC CRISIS after aegon dies because one of aegon's wives (daenaera velaryon) locks herself and her children (including aegon's heir) in dragonstone and a great council decides on aegon's brother viserys inheriting as king regent. marked by aegon's other wife jocasta lannister's consolidation of power to back the inheritance of her sons with aegon over daenaera's. also marked by viserys' insane wife alyssa arryn going ham with a priestess of r'hllor
120-128 PRINCESS REGENT DAENERYS TARGARYEN. she swoops into power as regent for aegon's descendants via daenaera in order to curb jocasta lannister. pretty good queen. more jocasta power-grabbing, + her son jaehaerys
128-136 aegon's grandson daeron i turns 14 and asks his great-auntie dany for the throne back please. he's a bit sheltered and is here for glory doesnt care much for rule or power. does a dorne conquest, assassinated by jaehaerys who, while daeron was doing war, had been consolidating allies at court. jaehaerys killed daeron while daeron was at his peace wedding with the princess of dorne. red wedding teehee. all secret of course, officially it was dornish rebels who wanted to stay independent but like everybody knows it was jaehaerys
136-144 jaehaerys ii son of aegon ii finally gets his throne. has like two dozen kids. originally his faith wife was alysanne tully and his blood wife was aerea bastard daughter of helaena and aerion, but aerea died and he remarried to viserys i's blood magic baby alysanne targaryen. has several concubines. his kids are a powder keg and he gets JFK'd by his daughter elaena, whom aerea died birthing
144-147 short reign of aegon iii. his elder brothers viserys and maegor were also JFK'd and he was stuck with the throne. hamlet if his dad was claudius. his younger brothers aemond and aerys cause problems for him. dies of over-exhaustion trying to solve the JFK mystery and also rule the seven kingdoms and deal with his horrible little brothers
147-184 reign of aerys i targaryen. religious fanatic groomed by the faith in love with his half-sister. his reign is marked by sharp shift towards faith of the seven. in 168 the faith pretty much fully wrest control from him (aerys' bastard nephew hugor via prince aemond siezes power and becomes high septon) and convince him to set up the 'faith protectorate' which makes him something like a constitutional monarch and puts the faith devout in control. his reign is marked by civil war. the north secedes in 161 AC, dorne is ruled by daeron i's sister daena who is masterminding rebellion, and the hightower declares war on the high septon and aerys which yes sounds insane but theres reasons. aerys ends up deposed by his son daeron. also the faith protectorate and aerys actually do a lot of pro-peasant stuff and removing power from nobles and thats a lot of the reason why they rebel.
184-204 reign of daeron ii. daeron is the third son of aerys and after an attempt to rescue his sisters from the maidenvault (yeah i had aerys make a maidenvault. aeyrs i baelor on steroids) got sent to a septry in the stormlands but his mother snuck him out and into dorne where daeron i's sister daena is wed to the prince of dorne. goes to war with his father and wins, forces him to abdicate. reign marked by fixing his father's mistakes and getting beat up by remnants of the protectorate loyalists. his wife gets merked and he gets domed but survives with some brain damage. his son baelor mercy kills him
204- reign of baelor the bloody. son of daeron who gets his epithet when aged 9 he kills some assassins/rebels when they attack the red keep. doing his reign and family now so its iffy, but he's married to rohanne martell the rosy dawn epic queen. cheats on her with a twink and she kills the twink. not sure on his death
im gonna keep the family tree going till 300AC when turbo-long night hits and everyone gets blowed up. anyway hope this helped lmfao im sure its VERY confusing 😭

Ok listen here fuckers if you like the mighty boosh, think Julian barratt is cool, and need more deranged girlbosses in your life then BOY OH BOY do I have the shows for you.
Alright we’ll start with the more lighthearted one first. It’s called Bloods, it’s on Hulu or sky tv, and it’s about paramedics. It’s fuckin hilarious. The main character is played by the same guy who played oluwande (Samson kayo) from our flag means death and the other main character is an older women, which we almost never get on tv so that’s already two wins (and their dynamic is hilarious). Where Julian comes in is that he plays the love interest for the batshit depot manager (her names jo, and I love her, she literally bites people). They have a very stupid, awkward and violent friendship it’s fuckin hilarious, 10/10. I’d say Julian’s character (his names Lawrence, btw) is abit of a himbo but he’s pretty emotionally intelligent, he’s just subtle about it. Also another thing about Jo is that she’s played by Lucy Punch who also played Lilith (the witch) from what we do in the shadows. (Oh and there’s also another deranged girlboss in this show her names Kareshma she’s awesome)
Alright the next show is a fucking sledgehammer to the emotions. I stg by the end of watching this I had been emotionally eviscerated and simultaneously had my faith in humanity restored. It’s about this depressed middle aged children’s book author and his family, Julian plays the main character. It does have a depiction of attempted suicide (it’s not that graphic tho and imo the story handled it very well) so know yourself and what you’re able to handle. It’s such a beautifully done show, I’m not really sure what to say about it other than watch it without giving to much about it away. I reccomend it if you like crying, positive father-daughter relationships, cannon lesbians, and more crying.
Okay thank you for coming to my Ted talk now go have fun watching these :D

thank you for tagging me @kiki-strike !! <33
10 characters 10 fandoms 10 (ish) tags!
1. Azula ATLA - she's a girlboss. she's a pathetic poor little meow meow. she's a manipulative mastermind. she's a socially awkward wreck. she's a child soldier whose mother left her & who's father treated her like a weapon. she's the most formidable villain the heroes have ever faced. i love her
2. Ashley Graves TCOAAL - a controversial pick MAYBE but I love to see a demon-worshipping cannibal queen winning (committing unspeakable acts but it's ok because her mom didn't love her & also she is baby have u considered that?) i think ashley should be allowed to commit all the atrocities she wants as a treat on the grounds that her parents were so awful they left her to starve to death & before that, pretended not to notice when she & her brother accidentally killed a girl in middle school
3. Natalie Scatorcio, Yellowjackets - 2 cannibal queens in a row I must have a type <3 I love a tragic hero who is also a violent, dangerous & unstable individual. forgiveness is a nice idea but my poor doomed antler queen will never live to see it... she was a gentle soul (ignore the atrocities) who never got to see a single moment of peace or gentleness in her life
4. Sam Carpenter, Scream - it was nearly impossible for me to pick between my best girls Sidney, Emma, & Sam for this list but I have to go Sam. she's the daughter of a serial killer. she enjoys stabbing people. she sees visions of her dead dad telling her to kill but she loves her friends & her sister more than anything. i adore my dangerous & violent but also oh so sweet babygirl
5. Faith Lehane Buffy the Vampire Slayer - listen, Buffy is the obvious choice for the best character in Buffy OFC. but have you considered. faith is broken & hurt & a little crazy with jealousy & obsession with buffy. she's the dark slayer. she has a dynamic with the wacky evil demonic town mayor that mirrors buffy's relationship with her wholesome (mostly. sometimes demon rebelly) librarian mentor as the dark side of the coin. she's never had anyone pick her first & it kills her but she pretends she doesn't care. i'd die for her
6. Baby Firefly - this time not a confirmed cannibal but my girl is into corpse desecration & necrophilia so I think this is a great list that proves I have excellent taste in fictional characters. "there is no wrong. if someone needs to be killed you kill 'em! that's the way :)"
7. Beth Salinger, Hostel 2 - fave final girl my bestie had a hot lesbian enemies to almost lovers to beheading you & playing soccer with the head dynamic with an evil secret society member who tried to lure her to her death. she also cut off the penis of the man who dared to fuck with her & fed it to a dog so like what more can you even want from a character <3
8. Dennis Reynolds IASIP - having dennis as my fave is soo embarrassing he's such a basic fave but genuinely he's SO fucking pathetic & sad beneath the layers of fake manipulative suave cool rich kid that he thinks he conveys (he doesn't). he's literally just a sad little girl who falls apart & curls up on he ground crying when things get overwhelming. everyone who doesn't understand him thinks he's a mastermind serial killer but they are FALLING FOR HIS ACT
9. Katherine Pierce TVD - THEY HATE TO SEE A GIRLBOSS WINNINGGGGGGG (I don't know Scarlet Witch but I think it's funny to steal the description for #9 for Katherine from the person who tagged me in this hehe) anyway it's funny for me to pick Katherine when I named my cat damon & I have a ginormous shirtless poster of ian somerhalder literally over my bed I'm looking at it right now BUT hear me out. Katherine is my real fave. unforgivable villain who always chooses herself first & also mirrors the protagonist & also she was just a girl once too, a pregnant, scared young girl. if the writers cared about me specifically at all we would've gotten a spin off of Katherine & her daughter instead of what we got
10. Annie Edison Community - much like with buffy the vampire slayer & buffy summers, there is a correct answer to which community character is objectively the best & it's obviously abed. BUT my subjective fave that I latch onto is annie. she's just so babygirl. she had a nervous breakdown in high school because she was always too perfect. she's just out of rehab for adderall when we meet her but it's mostly only referenced or flashed back to as a joke. we never meet her parents but the quotes she references from them are deeply disturbing if you turn off the laugh track & pay attention. she has a fucked up relationship with her good older male friend because #daddy issues. she is obsessed with true crime. there's a monkey named after her boobs. she's the ONLY member of the study group who could've EVER lived with troy & abed & incorporated herself into their dynamic the way she does in episodes like foosball & nocturnal vigilantism. my girl is so silly & a little crazy <3
anyway
thank u for the tag i love rambling about my fave characters!!
I tag: @missjessefantastico, @theowritesfiction @dont-leafmealone, @peony-pearl, @stalker-among-the-stars @bearsandbeansart @chasingfictions @hello-nichya-here, @lunaintheskyforever, @gathering0gloom, @jctko, @jet-apologistmybadhomies, @745voiceofthepeople, @prodogg, @matchamarshmallow

It's evident that you did not comprehend what I wrote and while that's totally respected, it's not really how you want to start an argument.
For one, the depiction will be "modern" yes, modern in the sense of modern day US (along with beliefs of right and wrong, misguided perception of the culture etc) but all that modernity will be hidden under the veil of the supposed "mythological realism" Miller claims to write, uncaring of that fact that she enforces her own biases using someone else's culture as the medium (my culture, mind you).
For another, of course she will attempt to "girlboss" her - it's what Miller does. Did you not see what she did to Kirke. . . oh no, sorry, "Circe" (pronounced Sur-see for the benefit of anglophones).
She had her be assaulted graphically for shock value (awfully similar to lore olympus' own made up assault, no?) and to showcase why she acts the way she does and even turned her into a sadist when no myth ever makes Kirke a victim of assault (or scorn and bullying as she's presented - of course mainly by other females and usually her female relatives - because Miller refuses and perhaps is unable to write a decent relationship between women, especially mothers and their daughters or even just represent a female character apart from the one's she likes as villains and yet markets her books are "feministic" which is just. . . No).
Now, I am almost certain she will have Persephone also be a victim of assault for the same reasons but it won't be at the hands of Hades, who no source claims he ever assaulted her or did anything but what decreed by the lawful marital rituals (which Miller supports, mind you) - it will most likely be at the hands of Zeus for, as per the Orphic tradition (an obscure cult that deviated quite a lot from the main myths and religion), it was him who took Hades' form and "seduced" her in the Underworld and then grew enraged when she fell pregnant and tore off her skin.
Also, it would be very benefitical to you to learn the meaning of the myth's original name which is "Η Αρπαγή της Περσεφόνης" or, in other words, "The Seizing/Stealing of Persephone" which correlates with the marital ritual of having the bride be taken from her home after she accepts the groom's marital present (in this case, Persephone unknowingly accepted the Narcissus). Also, it would also benefit you to learn the ancient meaning of the word "ratto" and why it was twisted over the centuries.
In most (if not all) cases the usage of the word spoke of seizings done either by the Gods in myths or by mortals in history (ex. Il ratto delle Sabine).
And, to return to my original point, that book will hardly be a "faithful retelling" and it's almost laughable to even suggest such a thing given her previous work. It is going to be a "romance" (the kind Miller is capable of, not the real kind) which will erase one of the main messages behind the myth, the pain of separation of mothers and daughters (if you'd read my addition you'd see that I mention that Miller seems to favour Demeter as an oppressive mother rather than the loving figure she was in the Mythos) and destroy ties between women, as always.
To end this as I've humoured you for far too long when it's evident that you don't want to listen, @coloricioso @alatismeni-theitsa @wordsmithic and many others have actually made posts highlighting several of the problematic aspects of Miller's work as well as her own distaste towards Greek culture and the arrogance with which she holds herself and I do highly suggest reading them.
You can like her work all you want but please do keep your eyes and ears open when Greeks (and others - mainly people in academia and practitioners of Hellenic Polytheism) explain why they don't enjoy her depictions and don't attempt to speak over us or silence us simply because you are a fan of hers.
Ps. The "Western tears" I and other Greeks are apparently "crying" are nothing other than concerns over having an actual Westerner come and claim to wish to "fix" and "push back against" the Homeric Epics, the literal basis of our culture, all the while adding assaults, destroying established loving relationships, villanising certain characters and whitewashing others at will for the sake of creating caricatures and furthering her biases and to appeal in Western audiences that neither correlate with nor comprehend the structure of the ancient Hellenic society throughout the eras or the weight the myths held for those people and what they represented.
I have some theories how Miller's Hades and Persephone book could go:
1. It shows the dynamic love of mother and daughter relationship and the wrongs back then in Ancient Greece was for women in forced marriages
2. Goes full LO style (we don't want that, she has studied ancient history after all she can do better)
3. Portrays Hades as an narcissistic and abusive husband, though i am worried if Miller portrays Hades assault ing Persephone, because i find it unecessery like in Circe to have a woman go through trauma to become stronger
I think she will go full "Circe", I am afraid, because through that book it became apparent how Miller sees ancient Greek women solely as victims she must save and represent
#Western tears#Foreigners coming to tell Greeks that our concerns over the depictions of OUR culture are insignificant will never get old#My gods stop#The got me I won't lie#I almost fell on the floor from laughing#So thanks for that it made my day#Also#Next time try to argue with someone who hasn't been researching this particular myth for the past 5 years and written academic essays on it#And what it represented in ancient Greece#Sorry to burst the bubble though

I usually think of Susan Pevensie in relation to Julia Flyte (and Nadine Eliot – in fact, a sort of arc that works older Susan first through Julia’s and then Nadine’s developments would be fascinating to me) but now I also think of her in relation to Charles Ryder, specifically in her relation to CSL. Because the opposites are the same !!!
First things first, I am comparing Susan’s (lack of) faith in Narnia and Aslan to their religious beliefs, because I am awfully tired of the “girlboss susan freed herself of religion” bullshit takes. Susan, for all we know, could be a perfect little church goer, a nice parish lady, shaking her head at her immature siblings who believe in all sorts of heathen playthings... but I digress. (Nylons and lipsticks and invitations are not sex and maturity... they are merely Rex Mottram!)
Susan sees herself about faith in Narnia, because she’s oh-so mature and rational. Those were CSL’s early arguments against faith and – Charles’ as well.
In a way, it was Logic, a Professor Kirke approach, that first made CSL doubt himself.
“Really, a young Atheist cannot guard his faith too carefully. Dangers lie in wait for him on every side.”
was what he said when he found that there were many very intelligent, rational, logical men of faith. At the same time, men who were fairly secure, confident, calm in their beliefs.
Would it be people like them who’d help Susan understand herself and the worlds? Perhaps. But Professor Kirke, it seems, could not change her mind.
And now I think of Charles... and the beautifully absurd way he found his way to God through the least likely people... Sebastian, whose trouble was that he simply couldn’t NOT believe, whose own faith was founded in a sort of child-like romance, despite being the worst example of a “good Catholic” an atheist would likely think of. Or because of it.
“I suppose they try to make you believe an awful lot of nonsense?” “Is it nonsense? I wish it were. It sometimes sounds terribly sensible to me.” “But my dear Sebastian, you can’t seriously believe it all.” “Can’t I?” “I mean about Christmas and the star and the three kings and the ox and the ass.” “Oh yes, I believe that. It’s a lovely idea.” “But you can’t believe things because they’re a lovely idea.” “But I do. That’s how I believe.”
Susan could easily be Charles in this dialogue, supposing it were about Narnia. I was nearly saying Sebastian could be Lucy, but Lucy wouldn’t keep it at that. Eustace, perhaps. Perhaps someone else entirely. The significant thing is that this was, in a way, the first step of what would be years, decades, of Charles journey. Not solid reasoning, but a lovely idea.
And to someone who claims to be so logical, so level-headed, reasoning works well, to a certain degree – but they will also always want to reason against it, and they skilled at that. Mere expressions of faith don’t interest them. But they might catch them off-guard.
Cordelia explained vocations to Charles in a similar manner:
“If you haven't a vocation it's no good however much you want to be; and if you have a vocation, you can't get away from it, however much you hate it.”
In a way, one could argue that Susan has something akin to a vocation. She is Queen of Narnia, always will be. It was the duty Aslan assigned her. At first, she did not want it – then she came to love it – until she denied it. But it always remained a part of her, no matter much she lied to herself and to the world.
Having, and hating it, as Cordelia talked about her brothers:
“Bridey thinks he has a vocation and hasn’t. l used to think Sebastian had and hated it, but I don’t know now.”
Cordelia is the youngest daughter, cheerful, her faith indomitable. Bridey is the oldest, dutiful even though his faith isn’t easy. Sebastian is the younger brother, the “problem child”, and his own spirituality is deeper than he likes it himself. Julia is the beautiful, worldly older daughter, who claims to have lost all faith. But we know how this ends...
“I've always been bad. Probably I shall be bad again, punished again. But the worse I am, the more I need God. I can't shut myself out from His mercy.”
I know the most obvious aspect of Charles’ unhappy love for Julia is her similarity to Sebastian... but truly, I think a large part of his supposed love for Julia is her similarity to him. And she denied him, finally, because she returned to a faith that he would eventually find. (Note: one of the reasons I heavily associate Julia with Nadine, but that’s OT)
The difference is that Charles has never lost any faith. He just never took Faith itself seriously, he laughed at it as child’s play. Susan did the same with Narnia, because after losing her faith, she lost all memory of ever having it – she wasn’t lasped, Narnia, to her, had always been a game. She was like a victim of serious manipulation – done by herself (and who knows what Screwtapish influence on her) – and the eventual result was that she thought of herself as someone who never truly believed in Narnia and in Aslan –
and who doesn’t think anyone seriously did. Her siblings were still playing! How jolly! But she had better things to do.
But Charles Ryder was not driven to become a Catholic by a happy family of model Catholics. The Flytes were as imperfect as they could be, and all of them in a different way, but that was what made him understand. And I wonder... maybe that would not suffice for Susan either.
In a part yes – when she had truly grown more mature, than serious talk with someone who understood Narnia and Aslan well, who believed and was perfectly reasonable, would have been a great influence on her. But at the same time, I think to truly wake out of her trance of supposed grown-upness would be the a clear contact with imperfect faith in a True Thing. A memory of Peter, who made a quiet effort, of Edmund who repented and learned, of Lucy, who believed blindly, almost savagely, and of herself, who had doubted so often, and who had always found her doubts to be wrong.
What Susan needs is, perhaps, a plain statement she could never reason or argue against: Narnia is a beautiful idea. If it is real, it is a beautiful idea. If it is not, it is a beautiful idea.
Puddleglum knew this. The Lady of the Green Kirtle could not take this one thing away from him – that voice inside Susan that is so very much like the Lady might be defeated by such a simple truth. Perhaps her siblings’ games are much more worth than all her grown up ideas. And if they are – if this realisation is the beginning of her journey, where will the road take her?

Rewatching Ninjago
(With no context other than the episode)
The Tournament of Elements episode 5-6
Dont get me wrong i love dareth but why is he the most prominent side side character in the show
Coles whistling sounds so pretty
I love how Cole accepted his faith, giving up, but then he found Zane, gaining a whole new motivation to escape.
Its canon that Dareth nows makeup :)
It was so funny how Nya just kept swatting Jays face until he fucking paid attention and looked 💀
Nya: that means theres a spy!
Literally ten seconds after skyler gives Kai the message she got from cole
Kai: a spy… its a good thing we have some people we can trust. thanks skyler!
Omfg i cant with him
Cole: Time to break out!
(Starts running on the conveyor belt and eating pasta as a show of rebellion)
BFJSNFJDNJR
It was so unexpected
Cole doesnt have his super strength or his elemental powers and he’s still taking on 12 guards at a time and winning
Nevermind
HE GOT THE KEYS
Zane: Cole.. you came back.
Cole: of course i did you shiny new tin can!!! (Hugs him) can you feel the love!
Zane: no.
Cole: ☹️
I really thought Nya was gonna just run away but ripping the spell page out of the book is so smart
Zane: the serpents strategy is very clever-
Cole: WERE ABOUT TO BE EATEN, ZANE.
Cole: pixal?!?!? you got a girl stuck in your head?!?!!!
Coles lines are always the best
Chen: youre harshing my viiiibe 🙄💅
Holy shit dareth can actually sing, good for him
A painting falls on Jay and suddenly hes immobile, get yourself together my guy
Kinda crazy how there's spys on both sides here
Oh wait
The title is ‘spy for a spy’
I'm stupid
The ninja will be like ‘a ninja should-’ and ‘a ninja shouldnt’ and then just say basic morals
Nya is such a girlboss in this
See this is what im talking about when I say she knows how to fight
Its so cool that one of the most intense battles we get in a season called ‘the tournament of the elements’ is nya against clouse
Ohhhh okay so skylers his daughter
Honestly thought she was his granddaughter with how old he was
Jay: they want us to hunt nya down! She wont stand a chance!
Jesus jay have a little faith in her, now ik what she means when she said you dont take her seriously
Ik Skyler is withering in guilt bc everytime she talks to Kai it's like ‘yes, im here for a loved one and im trying my best, oh and that's my sister were all hunting down, another loved one.’
He doesn't catch a break
Why did they ALL let go of their parachutes when the floor gave way.
Lloyd saving his father by giving him the parachute and Garmadom immediately growing worried and angry is just- 👌
Wait Lloyd can make an energy dragon?
Thought that was something he could only do as the golden ninja
Maybe the golden power was like a boost. Helped him work his powers better and now it's more difficult.
Can all the ninja do that? Is that like a thing? Making an energy dragon?
Nya is so smart she's great
Coles covered in powder AGAIN why does he keep doing this
Zane: with all our combined weight, escaping through the system should be fine.
Darreth enters the scene
Cole: time to think up another plan
That was so mean 😭
Chen was always just like that huh
Garmadon was so… sincere. So good even when evil was consuming him. He didn't even want to replace Wus love letter with his name
Okay yeah I fucking hate Chen he can rot in hell.
Kai: maybe we should be together- wait no that didnt come out right. I mean its a big island so maybe if we were a couple. Wait no! What i mean is-
Hes so in deep
Hes so ‘confident’ and flirtatious like that girl at the gas station but when he actually likes someone hes such a goofball :)
Mr pale: youll never get away with this chen.
Chen: Really? Where have you been! Ive been getting away with this time and time again!
I cant believe they showed that the master of flight was killed and due to that he had no descendent to give his power to
The tea lady!!!!
Kai and Nyas parents :)
Its so nice to see these cameos
Dont the anacondrai generals come back sometime in skybound?
Wait I thought Wu and Misako knew about Garmadons letter and him training under chen
Cole: okay, so maybe rolling ourselves up into giant eggrolls isnt the best plan.
Karlof: we could make a roto jet
Zane: that could actually work!
Cole:
Cole: we’re UNDERGROUND.
Okay but what is actually inherently wrong with clouses use of the dark art.
From what i can tell, its able to use a bit of every element and more but what's wrong with it other than how him using it for malicious intent
Holy shit Jay just fucking exploded
SKYLER.
How did she not think that through
You JUST used the ice power of the friend Kais literally searching for
On the other hand she was being really truthful at that moment in wanting to make sure Kais friends were okay and in a moment of desperation, used Zanes power. Which she would not have done if she was thinking carefully about keeping herself hidden as the spy.
The way they animate Skyler makes her so emotionless. Like, give my girl more than one expression.

Who are Rocket and Quinn?
I’ve already posted these pictures before, so I just downloaded them off my blog (which is why they’re so low-res…anyone know why tumblr just decided to deplete its quality all of a sudden? lol)
Anyways! Neither of Rocket nor Quinn are canon to any actual Grian lore, they are my creations
So Rocket is NPC Grian’s rustic house wife. He built a rustic house and a mannequin to go along with it because he wanted a better life. He stole the page that Grian used to summon the demon that is NPC, and used it to 1. Summon a spirit (not a demon) to inhabit the mannequin, and 2. Bind the mannequin and the house, making the mannequin the soul of the house?? Kind of?? Think like dryads and how they are these creatures who are actually the plants, but they’re also separate from them?? I hope that makes sense
And so Rocket, who has a southern accent and i love and adore her, is made! And she and NPC are super cute together, but ofc it makes Grian p peeved that NPC went and like…did something to be happy. Because past Grian was a meanie to NPC :’D
Periodically, NPC would disappear from the house, and ofc Rocket would be worried. This would be because Grian would lock him away in that closet when he didn’t need him.
But then one day, NPC just never came back. He never came back home and Rocket’s been waiting like 4-5 years. She’s not entirely alone, however, because she has her BFF Merriweather, the French microwave android who dated both Robot and Grian and dumped both of them bc she’s a girlboss.
Merri keeps telling Rocket that she needs to stop focusing on waiting for NPC to come back, because Merri believes he just up and left. She has no faith in any of the Dreamslayer men to be honest.
So Rocket, in an attempt to have a piece of NPC still with her, and in an attempt to find happiness again, she builds a mannequin robot and uses that page that NPC stole from Grian to summon a spirit demon (so half-spirit, half-demon, all wholesome) to inhabit the mannequin robot, creating the quater-human, quarter-machine, half-mannequin little girl named Quinn! So basically, Rocket built herself a daughter (who has the cutest southern accent)
Quinn is always asking about her father, to which Rocket always tells her that he’s off fighting in a war. She finds it much easier than explaining his absence in some other way, since she doesn’t even know what happened to him, and she doesn’t and can’t bring herself to believe what Merri is saying.
Rocket created Quinn after about a year of NPC being gone, and so the house is occupied by Rocket, Quinn, and Merri
Another thing I forgot to mention about Rocket is that she cannot leave the house. Well, she can’t leave the yard. After a certain point in the yard, Rocket hits an invisible barrier. Think Wreck-It Ralph when Venelope can’t leave Sugar Rush. This is because Rocket IS the house. She so desperately wishes she could leave and look for her missing husband, but she can’t. It’s impossible.
I hope that helped :D

If you have anymore, I’d love to hear more Martha slander
literally my biggest issues with her were that she was inconsistent in characterization, and then when she was consistent she was annoying and judgemental but in the worst sort of way. there's a way to come across as "knowledgable" without being guilt-trippy and pushy- i can understand her thinking she knows better when it comes to her mom, sure, and i can understand her getting annoyed with jordan for not doing what she believes ianite thought was best, but the way she handled those situations was really not. Good.
there were a multitude of ways she could have genuinely dealt with that: if she offered a solution and he refused it, she Should have either accepted it or genuinely talked it over with him and not go "oh woe is me, you're not doing exactly what i said so that means you hate me and you hate my mom and you're going to get us all killed, and i am going to be alone" and all that did was make me go GOOD. GO BE ALONE THEN like i don't feel sympathy for you, miss! you're being overly righteous and selfish and not handling anything like the adult you're supposed to be. jordan's not??? your champion??? he's also not your mom's champion! he's also not your dad! and he's definitely not your son or a new boyfriend or whatever the fuck you thought he was that gave you the idea that "yes i am going to gaslight gatekeep girlboss manipulate mansplain this guy" like jesus christ. you cannot gatekeep the faith in your mother. and i have reason to believe you didn't even hold any worship to your mother beyond the standard "this is my mom and she is a goddess" type schtick i dont believe martha ever actually Actively worshipped ianite but she sure did act like she was the end-all be-all authority on her!
martha as a character concept is good. the concept alone. daughter of a goddess and the goddess' fated champion who is left behind when her father disappears, and then her mom disappears, and then her brother goes off the deep end when his family dies because of their mother's grief. of course she'd struggle, of course she'd be out of sorts, and it would be hard for her to come to terms with the heroes arrival especially if in her eyes the person who is the closest to being able to help her mother is doing it "all wrong." but there are ways of navigating that sort of thing that doesn't involve making her overtly whiney- and even if she started that way, she definitely didn't have to stay that way. given the opportunity her and jordan could have had a genuine heart-to-heart about their concerns- martha's concern for her mother (if she had any and wasn't just trying to push herself into that "marthanite" role too fast but thats a different convo) vs jordan's concern for ianite, and how their point of views differ because of the fact that jordan does things differently and martha also can't control his choices even if she genuinely believes they're not right. they could've reached some sort of conclusion, and maybe then we wouldn't have had martha going "don't make a deal 🥺🥺 if you make a deal with mianite it means you hate me and i will be alone forever and you will be a terrible excuse of a champion and ianite will have hated you doing this 🥺" like. Shut Up.
anyways, yea

>be me >today i will make a height chart for my da protags and their love interests >okay maybe ill make it an outfit and color reference too >well i dont want it to be too boring to look at >draw this
so here we are with all my sweet little ladies and their lis :]!!! from left to right: cassie cousland, marian hawke and anders, aoife lavellan and cullen, rhiannon tabris and alistair, cecelia hawke and fenris, melly cadash and sera
LOTS of extra stuff under the cut!!!
lovely da protag templates are from marian churchland!
dear sweet cassie, partaker in the forbidden non-romantic alistair marriage that the game never knows how to acknowledge. very much the definition of gaslight gatekeep girlboss. and by that i mean a genuinely bad person in the sense that she tends to toy with peoples feelings. had an extremely public affair with anders during the events of awakening. It takes a good 5 years for her and alistairs marriage to be anything even approaching functional. extremely savvy, ambitious, and charismatic; a great politician and an extremely effective ruler. morrigan is her closest friend in the world (yes i know i never had her in my party. thats because im bad at video games and needed a healer.) and they’re like sisters.
my default hawke. 6′2, buff as shit, slept her way through half of her friends before finally settling with anders. she’s a blood mage and her first use of blood magic was during a particularly nasty fight where she got speared through the stomach. she carves herself up for mana; anders puts her back together. does things in anger and impulse and then regrets them (see: giving isabela to the arishok, never reconciling with carver after leandras death). mean if you dont know her, intensely protective if you do, but takes betrayal extremely poorly. constantly taking action, even if it doesn’t turn out very well; she is physically incapable of being a bystander. her and anders are my fave da couple ever... ask me about my post da2 hcs <3 theyre happy and have a daughter named bethany :] she punched cullen in the mouth at the end of da2 so hard that it left that scar.
literally is there anything like your first dai playthrough being an elf. aoife is... remarkably well realized in my brain for a character who’s life began as my friend chanting “goth elf! goth elf! goth elf!” over my shoulder while i was in character creator. very affable and friendly, but extremely politically adept with a capability for subterfuge that even she isn’t fully comfortable with. huge history buff. solas was like a big brother to her and her faith was extremely important to her so trespasser was crushing. very curious, especially about magic; definitely learned some blood magic from hawke after hearing dorian and solas talk about it. dorian is her closest platonic friend, but cullen is her rock. as in he is literally so normal compared to everything else that happens to her and she loves him for it. also her and hawke are friends and a scenario that lives rent free in my mind is them hanging out while anders and cullen attempt to kill each other in increasingly looney toons-esque ways in the background. she turned out remarkably pretty for an inquisitor... look at her
....and that’s it for my canon timeline. onto the secondary timeline!
DEAR SWEET RHIANNON. 4′8 powerhouse with a sword longer than she is tall. i first played rhiannon with a friend who was very new to rpgs and she picked all of the mean dialogue options because she thought they were funny, which led to me discovering that alistair reacts oddly and kind of hilariously well to being made fun of by a female warden pre-duncan dying. rhiannon is fun in that she literally gives no shits about conflict avoidance; if you start something with her, she’ll see it through. disliked alistair on principle and poked fun at him when they first met, but after the events at ostagar bonded to him extremely strongly. very close to him pretty much at the exclusion of all her other companions. extremely strong willed, laughs loud and smiles wide, no real concept of subterfuge except for when she’s hiding her own pain, generally goes in the path of least resistance if it gets to her goal faster. #1 arl eamon hater. she looks pretty different when i draw her compared to how she looked ingame but this screenshot of her doing the like. dead deer tinder profile pic pose is extremely powerful
cecelia is the truest tragic hawke that i’ve played (rip cecelia. you had the misfortune to exist in the warden alistair timeline). lost carver, lost bethany in the deep roads, lost her mother, believes that fenris has left her. act 2; a real rough ride for cecelia. aside from all the tragedy, she’s tough as nails, direct, and extremely blunt. very cautious in combat, even more so since she lost both carver and bethany. plans upon plans upon plans and prefers to strike unseen and unheard from the shadows. DEEPLY in love with fenris, best friends with isabela and merrill. aware of anders affection for her and keeps some distance for both their sakes; after the chantry explosion she helps him fake his own death on the condition that she never sees him again. when terrible things are not constantly happening she has a very dry wit, part of the reason her and fenris get along so well. too many bad things happen to her for someone with such nice thighs and such a stylish cape. her save file had some weird bugs with companion like.... staring???? in weird directions???
the absolute energy here. she also turned out very pretty in inquisition.
melly is easily my most powerful da oc. not in terms of in-universe power (although sword and board reaver is like. unkillable.) but in the sense that she is a catholic (read: andrastian) mid-40′s widowed mobster milf. she’s very close to cassandra and vivienne and consults them for advice before she goes to her actual advisors. even she was surprised by her relationship with sera; she finds sera’s unique sense of humor very charming and really likes pulling silly pranks with her as a reprieve from her everyday life. when she’s not with sera, she tends to be very pragmatic and logical when making decisions for the inquisition and has a very defined sense of purpose. she takes her role as both as the inquisitor and the herald of andraste very seriously. she’s very warm and soothing to be around during off hours and random inquisition members will often drift towards her for life advice. first draft of her and sera in this drawing had sera wearing this
#dragon age#dragon age origins#dragon age 2#dragon age inquisiton#handers#cullavellan#alistair x tabris#fenhawke#sera x cadash#im not trying to tag spam honest this is for my own tag system#anders#cullen rutherford#alistair theirin#fenris#sera#cassie cousland#marian hawke#aoife lavellan#rhiannon tabris#cecelia hawke#melly cadash#my art#jesus.#btw there is A LOT under that cut#my ocs

aight @xdeusxmachinax you asked for it.
let me introduce y’all to my cronus x rhea AU <3 i could go into a LOT more detail,, but i think i should probably just leave it at whatever’s under the cut, because otherwise it’ll literally go on for several pages.
for the record, let me just say that i did this uquiz to determine what kind of fanbase your characters would have and for my characterisation of both Rhea and Cronus, i got “people will not shut up about how they deserve better”, so that might give you a little insight into how i’ve imagined them...
so we all know the usual Gaia-got-fed-up-with-Ouranos’-bs-and-decided-to-kill-him story... well, i haven’t changed that part, it still fits in the story
here’s where we get into my AU- Cronus, in this version, while cunning, is also pretty noble and brave.. that’s why when all his siblings are a little hesitant to fight Ouranos, Cronus steps up and gives everyone a pep talk about how they can’t continue to live in oppression like this and how they need to stand up for themselves and fight to save the world from Ouranos’ tyranny
Gaia’s pretty proud of her son’s courage, and awards him the scythe, and with the Titans now invigorated with new-found pluck, they agree to follow Cronus’ leadership and help him defeat Ouranos.
at first Cronus doesn’t really have bigger plans for the future- he knows that he needs to defeat Ouranos, but after that? who knows.
that is- until he has a little aside with Rhea. now, in my AU, Rhea’s a bit of a girlboss, and while nothing’s really official between her and Cronus, it’s pretty obvious that they’re an item, even though they haven’t said anything.. anyways, Cronus thinks that it makes sense for Oceanus, their eldest brother, to become king after Ouranos, but Rhea tells him that he should be king, because he was the only one who didn’t hesitate when it came down to deposing Ouranos.
and the other Titans agree with Rhea, including Oceanus. it’s clear to all of them that, despite Cronus being the youngest, he’s the leader of the Titans, and they’re all happy to follow him because he’s a good guy.
anyways-- fast forward to the actual battle, and there’s a little incident that occurs where Ouranos tells Cronus that he’s a fool, etc. and, seeing the way Cronus looks at Rhea, Ouranos tells him that Rhea will eventually betray him the way that Gaia betrayed Ouranos- and that, as his father, it’s his duty to look out for his son’s best interests, and then Ouranos kills Rhea in front of Cronus (oh yes, we love us some tragic love)
but Cronus loves Rhea so much, he can’t deal with the idea of her dying, so he prays really hard, wishing that he just had a little bit more.. time
and time actually reverses to just a few seconds from before Rhea was killed!!! Cronus is still a little hazy about what happens, so he’s unable to save Rhea (again) but he tries to reverse time again, and he ends up going all the way back when the Titans had first gathered together to come up with a plan to kill Ouranos, and now Cronus is fully aware that he’s a god of time (he didn’t know before)
so now with his cool time powers, stuff happens, and Cronus defeats Ouranos, and he takes over from him, becomes king with his pretty girlboss queen, Rhea, and everyone’s happy.
UNTIL! Hestia is born not too long after, and at first, Cronus is really fucking happy to have a daughter.
but then the more he looks into his daughter’s big baby eyes, the more he begins to think about Ouranos’ final prophecy to him- that a child of Cronus’ will rise up against him and depose of all the Titans.
and eventually, Cronus can’t take it anymore- he and the Titans worked so hard to depose of cruel Ouranos- Cronus even lost Rhea a few times in the process. under Cronus, peace and justice has been restored, and the kingdom is happy. and now some spoiled brat is going to come along and destroy everything?? Cronus begins to see little Hestia as a threat,, not because he doesn’t want anyone else to be king, but because he doesn’t want the peace in the kingdom destroyed. so, when Rhea leaves the house one day, Cronus decides to swallow Hestia whole, and that’s that.
Rhea returns and is, understandably pissed off with Cronus, but Cronus explains to her everything, and at this point, Rhea still loves Cronus, and he still loves her. She finds it hard to believe that such an innocent child could do all this harm, but she has faith in Cronus, who had previously liberated them from Ouranos, and while she doesn’t like what happened, she convinces herself that it’s just a one-off thing.
But then Demeter is born, and the same thing happens. Then Hera, then Hades, and by the time Poseidon is born, Cronus has become a completely different person- he’s cold, he’s paranoid. Now he doesn’t even try to comfort Rhea. and Rhea herself has become so distraught over the loss of her children, and she absolutely despises Cronus and what he’s become.
she goes to Gaia and begs her mother to relieve her of the pain of living with a madman, but Gaia tells her that she can’t, because Rhea is with child again. but this isn’t good news for Rhea, and she begs Gaia to just take the child from her,, that she can’t bear it. Gaia takes pity on her daughter and reminds her of the prophecy about one of her children deposing of Cronus and tells her that the child within her will save the land and his siblings.
this is pretty shocking to Rhea because she thought this whole time that her children were dead. but upon learning that they’re actually still alive and can be brought back, she’s renewed with energy, and decides that it’s time to take Cronus down.
then it’s just the usual Cronus swallows a stone instead of Zeus, and thinks nothing of it, and Rhea gives baby Zeus to the nymphs to care for.
fast forward to several hundred years later- Rhea goes down to the nymphs to visit Zeus for the first time in her entire life, and there’s an emotional heart-to-heart between her and Zeus, who has heard so much about his mother but never met her.
and Rhea tells him about her plan to free Zeus’ siblings and depose of Cronus. and Zeus is super pumped and excited and he’s like, “hell yeah i HATE that guy!” and Rhea tells him that she doesn’t hate Cronus at all- she hates what he’s become, and that she needs Zeus to fulfill the prophecy so that Cronus doesn’t have to bear the burden of being king anymore- Rhea doesn’t love Cronus anymore, she hasn’t for sometime, but she does feel pity for him, and she refuses to continue watching as Cronus poisons himself.
anyhow, then Zeus meets Cronus and they fight and all Zeus’ siblings are rescued, and eventually Cronus himself is defeated, and he’s weakened by the fight, although he’s not dead.
Zeus, for his mother’s sake, imprisons Cronus in Tartarus, not with the other Titans who had sided with Cronus, but in one of Nyx’s caves, where he dwells forever, sometimes receiving prophecies and stuff.
Rhea lives with Zeus and the rest of the Olympians in Olympus, occasionally providing her counsel, but for the most part, she’s just retired and living the good life <3
and that’s it! congrats if you read all the way down to here ^-^
#lolol if you're wondering why i've thought so much about this it's because i was actually going to make this into a comic#who knows.. maybe i will#i have lots of ideas... but no time ://#replies#hc#rhea x cronus#oc tag

Bail Organa for the character asks!
my favorite thing about bail is his love for and absolute faith in leia. she was nineteen in rogue one but he had total trust in her and her capabilities. when i was nineteen my dad didn’t even trust me with his car lmao
least favorite thing about him is that during order 66 he just kind of watched zett jukassa die. no attempt to help this sixth grader fighting for his life, he just yells in dismay then flies away. i understand that bail is more of a politician than a fighter but cmon, he raised leia to be a rebel spy, there’s no way he doesn’t know how to use a blaster. but i think it’s an unfortunately realistic reaction for that kind of scenario, and the guilt and horror canonically haunted his dreams afterwards so i don’t hold it against him. and later on he was the victim of a very similar genocide, ALSO because of vader, so it’s not like he can’t empathize with the kid
favorite line is “I would trust her with my life” in rogue one uwu <333
brOTP is him and obi-wan, of course!
OTP is him and queen breha. the girlboss to his malewife <3 (OT3 is them and obi-wan because they strike me as a sexy swinger couple, but not like the gross kind that hunts unicorns on space tinder. they COURT obi-wan. they have wine and roses and everything. i don’t think they’re in love with him but they both care deeply for him and he kinda-sorta gave them their daughter so they joke that he was their surrogate.)
i don’t really have a nOTP for him? unless people ship him with jar jar or something. i certainly hope they don’t
random headcanon is that he and lando would’ve gotten on like a house on fire if they ever met. they’re both responsible leader types, lovers over fighters, and share an appreciation for capes
i don’t think i have an unpopular opinion about him but i think it would be funny if he was a girldad with a bunch of internalized misandry and that’s why he didn’t want luke. he’s a pickme boy.
song i associate with him: for some reason the first thing that popped into my head was long black veil by lefty frizzel. yeah i don’t know what my thought process is either
favorite picture of him: i hope it’s not cheating to have a couple!
the last one always cracks me up. he looks like he’s not even bothered. obi-wan looks like his disgruntled house cat being taken to the vet

Salty Ask List -
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?* (pretty sure I know the answers to this but I love your rants lol)
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
What is the purest ship in the fandom? (choose your own fandom)
Gonna do these for Midnight Mass since it's rotting my brain (major spoilers ahead)
1) so I'm actually not super into Millie x John. I... I dunno. (Part of it admittedly is that it freaks me out that every single woman on this island is a tall tragic looking pale white brunette with freckles lol like there were so many moments when Millie looked like Bev - did her hair the same, dressed similar, had a similar height and build, and it's weird for me. Would a short blonde or mixed girl have been too much to ask lol).
Also I just can't relate to the idea of staying with someone I don't love. I know she grew up in another time but I don't have that in me.
Mostly what annoys me is... she doesn't really seem to challenge him? I'm not talking about at the end where everyone is literally fighting for their lives. And I give her full credit for the role she played at that point. I don't want to discredit her actions. She's a hero. But let's rewind to what we know of their actual relationship. She's a very devout catholic who never misses Mass. We can say this is maybe because of John more than Jesus. Okay, I'll bite. So, what did their conversations look like? Did she push him? Did she search for answers? It doesn't sound like it. Her own daughter sees her as devout in faith. She's solid in her Christianity. And there's nothing wrong with that, to each their own. But I can't imagine John and Millie are having incredibly profound conversations about faith and theology and the universe. And that's the part of John that I like. His passionate like... bargaining with the universe and desperation to make things fit. To understand whatever comes at him and give it meaning. Because I've been grappling and wrestling with religion my whole life. I grew up in church. I minored in religion in college. Breaking away from the Anglican church growing up was rough for me and piecing together what I did believe in was even harder. But religion still fascinates me. I'll throw down on theology with just about anyone at any time.
I mean, at least with Bev you see some glimpses of passionate theological discussion. Mama Gunning is just portrayed as any other white lady who doesn't want to buck the status quo. I see her faith in the same debilitating toxic way I see my grandmother's and my mother's and my father's. It's just this passive thing she lets be a part of her personality 'cause she has nothing else on the island to fill that void. So, it's like... what they just like...stared at each other their whole lives and mutually acknowledged that they were both the hottest people on an island where the bar was excruciatingly low and that's what they connected on? Or what? lol I don't get it I'm sorry.
She's a great female character, I like Millie on her own. And she called a lot of shit before anyone else did. I respect her, I think she's a badass for shooting the love of her life when push comes to shove. I get the feeling that this is the type of woman that will help you dig in and weather a storm and that's some #girlboss shit. I just have a hard time shipping her with John. Like I ship the fucking Angel with John more than her.
2) Ya'll keep making these gif sets about Bev and John and I'm...starting to see it lol and I hate y'all for that. Stop doing that lol
3) I'm gunna be honest and say all the Father Paul x Self Insert shipping because we all deserve it and we're all valid

if it’s not too late, 12 for episodes and ships, and 17!
its never too late! thankyou for the ask 🥰 oo damn this is gonna be a hefty one, just to prepare you this is gonna be long 😅😅😅
spoiler alert for my friends who are finishing up season 2 rn, be careful if you look at my top five episodes, pay attention the the episode numbers, i will put [ ] in bold at the beginning and end of spoilers!
12. Top 5 ships
5. faith x myself because have you seen faith? shes such a babe! spare consensual kiss maam?
4. willow x oz, i dont know if this is an unpopular or not but i feel like if the 90s had been more accepting of term then willow wouldve been bisexual, but like even now tv shows will rarely let characters say that word :( but anyway i love them! theyre both quirky and kinda awkward but its such a sweet relationship and you really see how they go from awkward crushes to an actual deep relationship, oz is one of my favourite characters too what a dude!
3. giles x jenny, mlmxwlw solidarity in this bisexual couple! there is no an ounce of straight between them and i love it, i love their dynamic, i love that giles *respects women* (im staring daggers at xander rn), also the original girlboss x malewife couple askdjaksjhd
2. drusilla x spike, these two!!!!!! once again a bisexual couple with zero straight between them, the vibes are off the charts. sexy vampires, goth x punk love, i just love them man, and their relationship is so interesting to delve into. like theyre vampires, theyre soulless and yet they have a capacity for love, they care deeply for eachother, theyre so tender towards eachother in season 2 in the way they take turns to care for one another, also drusilla picking spike up with one hand made me gay and thats on that
1. willow x tara!!!!! lesbians man lesbians! they have a beautiful relationship, until a certain point wink wink, they feel like a perfect match, willows become more outgoing due to buffy and xander snd having a proper group of friends, so its cool to see her as the more outgoing independant one in the relationship, and tara is such a honey 🥺 the biggest sweetheart in the world what a babe!!!! also like how groundbreaking was their relationship? as a queer couple, they had p much the dame amount of screentime as a aueer relationship today! and willow says the word lesbian so many times and is always making gay jokes which is something shows today are too scared to do, its honestly refreshing which is weird for a show in the 90/00s
12. Top 5 episodes
this is so hard because its such a damn good show so i had to rlly be picky about this but here we go
5. 6x22 ‘grave’- i watched buffy for the first time last year at work coz i worked with one other person just packing shit, and THIS was the episode that made us cry infront of eachother. the scene with willow and xander at the end is one of my all time favourite scenes and like legit we were watching and we starting going like ha.. this is so sad Q_Q and we looked at eachother and we were both crying akdjdjsjdhs its SO GOOD, like this is a friendship ive been so invested in and [seeing xander be able to pull her back from that dark place was so heart wrenching and amazing god its so good]
4. 3x12 ‘helpless’ - im finishing up s2 in my rewatch rn so i havent rewatched this one to double check but i remember loving it man. buffys father daughter relationship with giles is my favourite of the whole show they make my heart ache, so i love that this is an episode that really shows you how dedicated giles is to her, [its the breaking point where he finally disregards the fact that hes a watcher and acts as her father once and for all, its a turning point for their relationship where he is finally embracing the fact that shes like a daughter to him and i just love to see it Q_Q get you a dad who will leave his lifes calling for you]
3. 4x22 ‘restless’ - season 4 is interesting coz it has really good episodes and them some gd awful ones 😂😂 but this one just blew me away, i love a good character study episode and this is THE SHIT! its so weird and creepy but in the most perfect way, its not on the nose its so subtle, it feels like an uncanny valley version of buffy almost, i like that they finished the season first and then took this episode to do something out of the box and different i feel like it lets them fully explore this idea without the pressure of needing plot included. [also the cheese man is iconic. dont however like xander being all nasty with willow and tara but whats new there man]
2. 1x12 ‘The Prophecy Girl’ - for my first watch of buffy i wasnt that into the first season, like i enjoyed it but i didnt think it was anything super special? but this episode changed EVERYTHING for me. up until now buffy had been fun, witty, charming, but not anything new atleast for me, maybe in the 90s it was but right now its your average teen supernatural show. but this episode!!!! the emotion! buffy facing her death, her speech about how shes just 16 and shes scared and she doesnt want to die, that is what i wanna see!! its heartbreaking and it made me cry, and then it gives us the wonderful moment of giles trying to take her place and buffy realising that she has to be the one to do it, man its so good! basically anything with buffy and giles being a duo is gonna make it an automatic yes from me and this is indeed the case for this episode, i just love that the show remembers that shes a child! shes not brave all the time, shes not strong all the time, shes just doing her best and sometimes its overwhelming, 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 i bow to this episode
1. 2x17 ‘passion’ - i know i just sang praises about prophecy girl but THIS EPISODE IS THE SHIT, the best episode full stop. i wont accept any argument. angel is probably my favourite big bad, its so funny to see plain bread, mopey brooding angel become this charismatic, funny, poetic, blood thirsty angelus, hes everything i want in a villain and in this episode he delivers! rip jenny tho love her. i think the tension built around angel is so good, because of his drawings and notes left around, every scene youre worrying like is he here now? are they safe or what? its so tense! and also it is me and im a slag for buffy x giles father daughter moments and this episode fucking delivers! giles discovering jennys dead body is probably one of the best scenes on the show, the dramatic irony is heAVY, we know jenny is dead, we know that these flowers arent from her, but giles is so so happy, and i want to see him happy but you just know somehing horrific is about to happen and damn does it. its a masterpiece! i love jenny and giles so much it is so sad, but also the fact that it gave us that scene makes me almmmoost ok with it? i also love the moment where giles breaks down in buffys arms, hes been there for her and now shes returning the favour and hes accepting it i just 😭😭😭 also on a different note, angels narration of this episode is amazing! it gives us great insight to who he is as “evil angel” and like even though hes awful i was also kind of rooting for him coz hes just such a great villain
sorry this is so long lmao, last question!
17. Which characer do you wish had less of a focus on them in the show?
i dont wanna get yelled at butttttt i dont like the amount of focus on dawn. i think it makes sense for the her first season considering the story arc but that season really does double down its focus onto dawn and buffy and it barely leaves room for anyone else to have a storyline, it keeps the episodes super depressing too its like a constant level of just sadness the whole time because we’re so stuck in THEIR arc, theres no room to balance it out and have a breather, some people might like that its more serious but i really really didnt like, i love episodes like prophecy girl where it is campy and brings the more emotional notes in when the time comes, but dawns whole arc is just constantly depressing the whole time i just hate it, and also just shes not a character i felt i could connect to because of how suddenly shes introduced, so its weird to have her SO focused on in the first half of that season coz we dont know her yet so i feel like the emotional moments dont land the way that they should? basically they shouldve eased us into dawn or introduced her differently and maybe i would like her enough to want the focus on her but i really just dont
adksjakjshd apologies for the essay this is, thanks for the ask!
#btvs#buffy the vampire slayer#why did i write a paragraph for everything im so sorry#i wish i knew how to add a read more link but i dont on mobile#my post#dawn fans please dont murder me#i dont hate her i just dont like her yanno#i am scared people are gonna hate me for not liking her but we all have our tastes
